My services are provided through the St. Louis Website Co.—a St. Louis based web design and development company.

Website Development

New Leaf for MatthewSmith.com

New Leaf design for Matthewsmith.com

MatthewSmith.com is a wordpress blog that features regular updates (well, sometimes), twitter integration (still working on that), and analytics tracking. It really has been my playground for learning the Wordpress CMS, as well as, cloud technologies such as Amazon S3. The site seemlessly integrates static and dynamic content and features a unique ability to scale due to built-in wordpress plugins and image hosting via Amazon. It has even allowed me to push my knowledge of web technologies by limiting to support to only first-tier browsers. In the end, I am most proud of the new design. It is simple and I think represents me well.

Someco Concept

Someco Concept

Someco is a concept for a corporate site that was created to test my hand at creating a corporate identity. The inspiration comes from a palette I found at colourlovers.com. The greens and blues of the design go well with an overall green theme of the made-up company. The concept pictured to the left (click the thumbnail view a larger image) is of what the homesite for the company would look like. The design features simple navigation, a strong call-to-action near the top of the page, an easy-to-read content area that describes the company, and a case-study developed to encourage similar company's to read more about Someco.

Someapp Concept

Someapp Concept

Someapp is a concept for a hypothetical application named Someapp. The premise of this design is to create a simple way to market the unique features of the application. The design accomplishes this by providing a slide show tour as the primary focal point of the page. Below the tour, each feature is discussed in depth with a thumbnail view of the feature. The site also features a call-to-action for the prospective user to register for the site, and a simple way to direct existing users to login to the application. The intent of the application is framed by a simple, bold headline "simplifying your business..." to encourage the prospective user to learn more.

Cityscape for EricKrassinger.com

Cityscape Concept

Cityscape is a concept that I designed for EricKrassinger.com, a personal blog ran by a friend of mine. Like me, he is a St. Louisan, but unlike me, he chooses to live downtown. He often writes about his experiences in the city, so I thought that a blog featuring the skyline of St. Louis would be appropriate. The design of the header is dark to emphasize the skyline, but punches of color draw your eye to important features like the last tweet, headlines for each post, and additional links within the site. Right now this is just a concept, but Eric has given me the green light to put it up, so it should become reality sooner-than-later.

TWDCS

TWDCS design for twdcs.org

This site was designed for TWDCS.org to promote their organization and engage their community by posting photos, reunion information, memories, a roster, and other miscellaneous information. The site featured a minimalist design (which since has been transformed by my predecessors) and featured a JavaScript-based image rotator and a secure portion of the site where members could log in to retrieve private information such as phone numbers and addresses of other members. The site was primarily static HTML. The secure portion of the site was built using ASP.net and XML files for storage.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car

I have spent the last four years of my life working as a front-end developer at Enterprise Rent-A-Car. I started out as a senior and am currently in the position of lead. As a front-end developer, I work on a number of business-to-business and consumer facing sites. I work primarily on the development end. The primary technologies I use are HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. But, I have learned enough JSP and JSTL to be able to fully integrate front-end changes with the middleware. I have the pleasure of working with a number of talented front-end developers, designers, and developers here; and, look forward to more in the future.

Foliotek

I spent the first three years of my career working on a product called Foliotek. While admittedly, the product has changed (for the better) a lot since I have worked on it. I do take some credit in getting it off the ground. As a developer at Lanit (the parent company), I produced end-to-end solutions consisting of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, ASP.NET (C#) and SQL Server. Foliotek, itself, is a complete portfolio solution for education students that provides assessment, file storage, and collaboration tools.
